Abbaye Saint-Wandrille by Beausoleil Star this if you like it!

Saint-Wandrille is a Benedictine Abbey that welcomes visitors to its historic sections. There are also guided tours to the monastic sections. Saint Wandrille founded the abbey in the year 649 and he died in 668. Forty of the monks from this abbey have become saints. That’s quite a record for one abbey. They survived Viking raids and the Hundred Years War among other disasters. From 852 to 960 they were forced to leave the abbey only to return and rebuild. After the French Revolution, it fell into private hands and was put to many uses. However, in 1894 the abbey was returned to monastic rule until 1901 when the monks again went into exile. In 1931 the monks returned and were bombed in World War II. They rebuilt the abbey which is in use today.
