Carcassonne - the medieval Cité streets by Beausoleil 2 Star this if you like it!

Carcassonne is a hilltop town in Occitanie in southern France that is famous for its medieval citadel, La Cité, with numerous watchtowers and double-walled fortifications. The first walls were built in Gallo-Roman times, with major additions made in the 13th and 14th centuries. Château Comtal, a 12th-century castle within the Cité, offers archaeological exhibits and a tour of the inner ramparts. The outstanding church is the Basilique des Saints Nazaire et Celse that formerly was a medieval Cathedral. It is no longer the seat of a Bishop so is considered a basilica. The stained glass windows and religious art, ancient and contemporary, inside are worthy of a visit.
