Saint-Jean-de-Côle is one of the Plus Beaux Villages of France. They are supposed to have a population of under 2000 and at least two sites of historic interest. The towns have to apply and the local citizens must be in favor of applying. This results in a charming and interesting and very friendly place to visit. We always search them out when we're driving in France. Saint-Jean-de-Côle is a little out of the way, but if you are in the northern Dordogne, it is worth a trip.
