About @aharrold45

42 years old • Male • Travel consultant

I am a young Aussie guy who is hooked on travel (and now got a job that means all my life is about travel. In November 2006 I came back home from a really big and extensive round the world trip which amounted to over 100,000km with all the long distance bus and train travel I did as well as all my flights. It took me to Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, UK, Iceland, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile (including Easter Island), Argentina, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Jamaica, US (New York, Washington DC, Miami, Key West, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon and Hawaii both the Big Island and Oahu). Now I have been to 48 countries and have got a big case of the travel bug biting me again. My latest adventure overseas in November/December 2008 saw me fly from Sydney - Johannesburg and go overland through Botswana and Zambia on way to fly out of Victoris Falls in Zimbabwe. In that brief time I saw a sleeping lion in the middle of the road, a leopard walk across in front of the van, black rhinos walking in front of us, plenty of elephants up close and some Water Buffalo's not to mention the impala's that are everywhere in Kruger and other national parks in South Africa.
After my safari ended in Victoria Falls, I flew across to South America (via Madrid over 2 and a half days of being on planes or in airports) and I eventually got to ElCalafate in Argentina where I got an up close encounter with the moving giant known as Perito Merino glacier. I also got to go underneath the glacier which was pretty amazing. I then flew down to Ushuaia and had an 11 night cruise to Antarctica. The two and a half days of 5 metre waves hitting side on were hell but once the water got smooth and I saw the first large iceberg, all the sea sickness was worth it. It is the most amazing place anywhere on earth and is a place you should try and go sometime in your life. I had some Elephant Seals on Elephant Island come up to me and lean against me bumping me off my balance which was a pretty interesting experience. After the cruise was over I headed overland to Peurto Natales and went to Torres Del Paine National Park where I spent 4 days hiking 100km doing the W Trek. After that I got the flight to Santiago and back to Sydney just in time to see the year off in style on Sydney Harbour.
