About @rbyslipahs
46 years old • Female • Archaeologist & Singer
If you've ever seen "The Wizard of Oz," that's me. Small town Kansas girl through and through. Yes, I have a pair of ruby slippers. No, they do not work overseas (I don't know where to put the SIM card). I love helping my friends plan vacations (especially honeymoons), but love helping other people plan their vacations to the US even more, especially if it means visiting an area somewhere between the east and west coasts. I'm usually found behind the viewfinder of my camera, which often has better insurance than I do, or on stage making a fool of myself because some director with a warped sense of humor knows I'll do it. I take great pride in being the second chorus girl from the left, and if it means also playing the pivotal role of the dead snake in the opening sequence of the opera, then I shall be the best dead snake ever. Mozart himself could not approve more of my interpretation.
I am currently in school for cultural anthropology and archaeology and hoping to find myself doing research in Southeast Asia, an area where archaeology has been very difficult until very recently.
The best advice I can give to any traveller is to always learn how to say thank you in the local language wherever you go. Doing the potty dance is pretty much universal, but definitely remember on your way back to thank them for showing you the loo!
- Hobbies:
Someday, I shall defeat the maliciously hard level of the "waterfall" version of Mah Jong.
- Favourite places:
Scotland! Koh Chang, Thailand. Kansas in the summer. Ronda, Spain. A few hard-to-get-to areas of Fiji.
Not a sprig of grass shoots uninteresting to me. -Thomas Jefferson

Scotland
One of my favorite places to visit! I've stayed in top-end places, great B&Bs, and hostels, and it's all been great. Scotland is a great place to drive if you're looking for a do-it-yourself tour. Helping some friends plan their honeymoon to Scotland summer of 2006, and glad to pass along any tips.

Thailand
I'd be glad to share any tips from my honeymoon in Koh Chang (eastern Thailand island archipelago) and Khao Yai National Park. I'm not much of one for package tours, so if you have questions on how to get from point A to point B on your own, ask away!

USA
Born and raised in the midwest, I currently live in St. Louis, Missouri, make all my own travel accommodations, and am constantly checking travel rates to just about anywhere in the world! In the US, I can be found roaming anywhere between the Appalachians and Rockies any given weekend. My better half is from Chattanooga, TN, and has had the pleasure of traveling through Germany and Italy while singing opera, and I am a zealous Scotland freak. We are planning our honeymoon to Thailand and Cambodia right now, so always glad to offer help where that is concerned. I love a good road trip, but also really enjoy riding the rails (Amtrak).

Cambodia
Went to Siem Reap/Angkor via the overland route from Thailand on my honeymoon in May/June 2005. Loved every minute of it, and glad to give advice on getting there from Koh Chang!
