  • About road to roam:

    Budget travel - $15 per day - has been my thing since 2013. In pursuit of this I have hitchhiked with my gal from Portland, Maine to the Panama Canal and back. We continue to travel slow (and cheap!) to this day.

    We are currently on a 5+ year journey, with only a very loose idea of what to do and where to go from one day to the next.

  • Hobbies:

    Backcountry hiking, slow travel, reading non-fiction, soaking in hot springs, cooking (and eating) and getting lost wherever we are. For music, heavy metal and British shoegazing groups are on my play list at the moment.

    Sociology documentaries fascinate me and I love to watch boxing and mixed martial arts matches. I like to fix things, be it a toaster, my vehicle or computers. Again, I love to eat - not a foodie, just someone who likes good food.

  • Favourite places:

    Do we have to choose favorites? Well, okay then: Birmingham and the Cotswolds; Quetzaltenango, Guatemala; Mexico City; Patras, Greece; Marche and Abruzzo in Italy; Real de Catorce, Mexico; Big Corn Island off the coast of Nicaragua; Howth Head in Ireland; Mazatlan, Mexico; San Salvador, El Salvador (honestly!); Panama City, Panama; Laguna Bacalar, Mexico; watching the fireflies in summer from the front porch of Mom and Dad's house; Grogan's Pub in Dublin; Portland, Maine; the 21st floor of Foxwoods (facing the forest); any hiking trail in Chaco Canyon; Northern Ontario; Boston; San Antonio hot spring in New Mexico; Killester, in North Side Dublin (D5); Wild Sheep Mesa in Ramah, New Mexico;

Baja_California

I've driven the entire length of the peninsula 4 times and have even hitchhiked it from Tijuana to La Paz, so I hope to be able to answer your questions!

South_Portland_Airport

I refueled all commercial aircraft at Portland International Jetport from 2014 - 2017. This small airport is one of the best in the country and I am happy to say I worked there!

Portland_(Maine)

I lived in Portland for 14 years and have walked every inch of this big town. This part of Maine is much more than lighthouses and lobster rolls, although those things are good, too.

Quetzaltenango

I have spent months at a time exploring the Western Highlands of Guatemala using Quetzaltenango as a base. In fact, I cut my teeth as budget traveler here in 2009 and have been in love with this area ever since.
