I grew up the son of a military father and moved every three or four years as a child. I saw much of the western United States doing so, and as an adult have continued to yearn for new places to see. I moved frequently until I met my partner in my early 30s and now I travel to satisfy my wanderlust.

• Hobbies:

  I love eating - that's a hobby, right? And when I'm not enjoying a snack, I read news, reference books, some history, and fiction (I love anything by Alastair Reynolds).

  As a more serious hobby, I've taken up photography. It is something I've always casually liked, but my partner saw something else and set me on an expensive path a few years ago by gifting me a Nikon DSLR. I've since upgraded bodies and added a few different lenses - I love taking pictures! I've sold some landscape photos as stock photography, but mostly I enjoy filling photo albums and turning my best shots into artwork.

  And of course I love to get out of the house and see what's out there! The world is beautiful and should be appreciated - go see it!

• Favourite places:

  Some of my favorite places include the Rocky Mountains (so diverse and beautiful, especially as you go further north), the American southwest, and any beach, no matter the water color - just close your eyes and listen to the sound.
